Chrysanthemum Swirl Variant

The items shown are the "Tankard Pitcher" and the extremely rare "Straw Holders".
William Heacock called these pieces a "Chrysanthemum Swirl Variant" in 1987 and he wasn't
sure who the maker was. Since then, all these shapes have been found with Northwood's color
combination called "Red Spatter" (see photo below), so we now know that Northwood was the maker.
Compare these to the "Chrysanthemum Swirl" pattern. Notice how the Tankard does not blow out
at the base. Also notice how the Straw Jar's ribs are vertical. All these items were made as early as
1888. The Straw Jar shown in Blue is the only complete Jar with it's cover known to exist. This Straw Jar
was purchased in 1997 for $4,000.00. On the extremely rare White Opalescent Jar notice how the Opal
Stripes swirl in the opposite direction as the Blue one. These Northwood Opalescent Straw Jars are the first to
appear in advertisements in 1888, the same year Marvin Stone invented the Paper Straw. It is a real
treat to be able to show these extremely rare Straw Holders.
