Another Great Discovery! This discovery involves two different patterns. Daisy in Criss Cross and Arabian Nights. It is currently known that Daisy in Criss Cross was made by the Beaumont Glass Co. Until now it's only been speculated who made Arabian Nights. Both patterns are created by the use of what's known as, a "Spot Mould". The "Spot Mould" puts the raised design in the glass and when it's struck at the furnace, the raised area will turn white which creates the pattern. All that remains is for the artist to finish blowing the piece into it's final shape. This requires the "Shape Mould". Here's the key to unraveling some of the mysteries about these rare patterns. If you can find a pattern made from a Spot Mould that has a confirmed attribution to a particular company, then you can attribute the "Shape" mould that was used to the same company because they both had to be used at the same time. Keep in mind that "Arabian Knights" has never been reproduced. This means that the shape mould used in conjunction with the "Spot Mould" was made by the same company at the same time. Shown here is the Arabian Nights pattern which was blown from a specific shape mould. For years it's been speculated that this item was made by Northwood. Pay particular attention to the overall shape of this pitcher. Notice the way the Crimp is at the top. Notice the ring neck. Notice how and where the handle is attached. Notice the ball shape of the Pitcher. Northwood never had ownership of the "Arabian Nights" Spot Mould, and that means they didn't have ownership of the "Shape Mould" either since they had to be used at the same time to create this Water Pitcher. So if we can find out who owned the "Shape Mould", then we will know who owned the "Spot Mould" and who the true maker was. I was searching through some archived material from previous auctions and ran across this Water Set. Shown here is the Daisy in Criss Cross pattern. The "Daisy in Criss Cross" Spot Mould was owned by Beaumont. This means they owned the "Shape" mould as well because both had to be used at the same time. This means that this "Shape" is now positively attributed to Beaumont which means we now know who the true maker was for Arabian Nights. . Another mystery solved. In the Price Guide the same shape is shown only with a different style crimped top. See Daisy in Criss Cross. Till next Newsletter.
