Swastika has always been attributed to the Dugan Glass Company until now.
The items shown in the middle is the rare "Tankard Style Water Pitcher" blown from the Dugan
"Diamonds & Clubs" mold. On the left is the "Ball Shape" pitcher with a Star crimp. On
the right is the very rare "Syrup". The second row shows the Tumbler. Till now, known production
dates for "Swastika" was about 1907. Most people owning any of these pieces during the 1920's
and 1930's more than likely got rid of them due to the Hitler uprising in Germany. Anything found today
is considered rare.
Note: The Ball Shaped pitcher with the Star Crimp on the left has recently
been found. Northwood is known to have used this ball shape as early as 1894 with their "Daisy
and Fern" pattern. Heacock shows this shape in his Book II Opalescent Glass from A to Z on page 54.
He also stated that the Syrup Jug was made c. 1890 - 1900. Harry Northwood turned control of the National firm
over to his cousin Thomas E.A. Dugan in 1904, the year the Dugan Glass Company was founded. So this pushes
the previously known production date for "Swastika" earlier by 13 years and also means it was originally made
by Northwood and then later by Dugan. What a wonderful discovery. This photo is provided by collectors
