Laural Swag & Bows
The item shown is the rare "Gas Lamp Shade" and "Electric Lamp Shade. It is attributed to Fenton
as the shades have been found in an early Fenton color Amethyst Opalescent which was made c. 1908.
Note the photo of a metal fixture that combined the use of either Gas or Electric.

Note:

It's been known for years that Electric Shades were usually made in the same patterns
as the Gas shades. The double fixture is proof of this. Gas lighting burned hotter and the shades had to be
made wider in size to keep from breaking from the heat. Notice also that the wide opening of the Gas
shade is always facing upward. This allowed the intense heat to rise away from the shade. The Electric
shade burned cooler so could be angled downward. Electric lighting did not burn as hot and so the shades
were made more narrow.
