Northwood Pan American
The items shown are the extremely rare "Vases" made by Northwood in 1901 for the World's Fair
in Buffalo New York. They are made in a Stripe Opalescent pattern. They have an emblem embossed
that says Pan American 1901. This Blue Jack in the Pulpit shaped Stripe Opalescent vase
shown on the left belonged to the late collector Carl Schleede past president of the International Carnival
Glass Association, ICGA, in 1976 - 1977. It was photographed and shown on the cover of Northwood the Early Years.
When Carls collection was auctioned off the Vase was purchased by the late collector Nelson Heintzman.
Nelson also owned the Vaseline Vase shown which no one knew existed.
The Blue vase stands 6 3/4" tall. The Vaseline vase in the middle is 6 1/2" tall. They both came from Nelson's collection.
The vase on the right was auctioned off by Philip Weiss Auctions back in 2007. So it becomes obvious that these vases
can be found with different styled tops. There is a known example that was made in Blue and White spatter but it's top
was damaged and is shown below. The photo is courtesy of collector and auctioneer Tom Burns of Burns Auctions.
This is proof that Northwood did make Blue & White spatter pieces that preceded Dugan. Other colors such as Cranberry
or White are possible to find but none are known. Over the years these are the only examples known to exist.
Notice the applied glass rigaree around the neck.
