Lattice Quilt
Once in a great while a new discovery in Victorian Glass is made. This happened with the help of two different collectors.
One collector had the original company advertisement, and the other collector had the actual Straw Jar. This extremely rare
Straw Jar with Cover shown on the left in Flint (White) Opalescent is the only complete Jar known to exist in this Opalescent
color and shape. It was made by the H.C. Fox and Sons Flint Glass Works of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in
1893. The Pharmaceutical, Druggist and Chemist trade items were sold under the name of Fox, Fultz, & Webster located
in New York and Boston.

The Jar was also made in plain colors of Amber, Blue, Flint, Ruby and Vaseline as shown on the right. Other Opalescent
colors such as Ruby Opalescent, Blue Opalescent, and Vaseline Opalescent are possible. It's a real treat to show them. The
extremely rare Vaseline Jar is also the only known example complete with cover in this color and is shown only for comparison.

The photos were supplied by a private collector. It is a real treat to be able to show them. The pattern looks different on both Jars.
On the Vaseline Jar it appears to be a "Quilt" design. The Opalescent Jar appears to be a "Lattice" design. The pattern name
"Lattice Quilt" was chosen to accomodate both Jars and not interfere with other pattern names already in use.
