The items shown are the "Water Pitcher" and the extremely rare "Straw Holder". Many
early companies produced a Lattice pattern. The Water Pitcher on the left was made by
Hobbs Brockunier. The extremely rare Straw Holder on the right was thought to be American
made. The photo below shows a comparison between the Straw Jar and a recently discovered
Handled Basket in the same pattern and color combination. This basket is known to be of
English origin from the Manchester area, so it becomes clear the Straw Jar is from the same area,
and most likely from the same glass house. Both items were made from the late 1880s to early 1890s.
This Straw Jar is the only known example complete with cover in this pattern and shaded color combination.
Marvin Stone's patent for artificial Paper Straws appeared in England in 1887, one year prior to his patent
in the United States in 1888. Harry Northwood began producing Opalescent Straw Jars this same year.
It's been unclear if England produced any Opalescent Straw Jars as none have ever surfaced until now.
Also shown is the Jar bottom with a missing cover. Notice the Lattice design and the shape are the same,
but the color is Pink shading to clear and one is Vaseline. It's possible other colors may be found
