Duchess
Pretty much anything found in this pattern can be considered rare. The items shown are
the "Water Pitcher" and "Tumbler". On the right is the rare Electric Lamp Shade. It was long been believed
that this pattern was made originally by Riverside Glass. It is now known that the pattern was originally
made by Beaumont. Recently a new rare catalog by the Tygart Valley Glass Company of Grafton West
Virginia has surfaced which shows that the Duchess pattern was originally made by Beaumont and then
later by Tygart. In the Tygart catalog dated 1908, there are other documented Riverside Glass patterns that appear.
Riverside Glass went out of business one year prior, so it becomes clear now that Tygart Valley Glass bought up
moulds from both Beaumont and Riverside Glass when those companies went out of business. The catalog can
be obtained from the West Virginia Museum of American Glass, Ltd. and is shown below.
Notice that both the Gas and Electric Lamp Shade shapes are illustrated in the catalog.
