Wild Rose Shade
The item shown is the rare "Gas Lamp Shade". It has been given this name
and shown in other reference books and mistakenly attributed to Fenton. Recently
it's been discovered that Northwood was the actual maker. It seems these shades are the
only items known in this pattern. The Gas Shade is illustrated in a 1906 Northwood
catalog shown below, top row, middle item.

Note:

It's been known for years that Electric Shades were usually made in the same patterns
as well but none have ever been seen until now. Metal Fixtures were actually made that
had both shades attached. The homeowner could choose to use either Gas or Electric from
the same fixture. See Laural Swag & Bows. Gas lighting burned hotter and the shades had to be
made wider in size to keep from breaking from the heat. Electric lighting did not burn as hot and so the shades
were made more narrow. This photo of the Electric Shade in White Opalescent was shared by
collector Rick Graham. Thanks for sending it.
